CITY AND
COMMUNITY PARTNERS

OVERVIEW

Graduate Philadelphia is honored to have an established partnership with the City of Philadelphia Department of Commerce and thank them for their support in increasing postsecondary credentials attainment rates in Philadelphia.

We thank our historical and new community partners including the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia, Philadelphia Works, Episcopal Community Services (Mindset Program), North10 Lenfest Center (Impact Center), the Free Library of Philadelphia, and the Leadership Institute for Black Women.

Programs and Services

In partnership with the City of Philadelphia Department of Commerce, Graduate Philadelphia takes a community-level approach to recruit and support adult learners and front-line workers. We are focused on working with local faith-based institutions, nonprofit organizations, public libraries, organized labor, City Council constituent services, and outplacement agencies to create a hyper-localized neighborhood-based approach to marketing, recruitment, and service delivery.

We work with adult learners and front-line workers who represent a broad range of backgrounds and occupations. They are civil servants, returning citizens, military veterans, retail customer service agents, security guards, bus drivers, and other essential workers. Many of our participants are vulnerable to being displaced by the rapid acceleration of automation and benefit from personalized services anchored on preparing for the future of work.

Current services relate to the following:

  • Establishing an entry point at the very beginning of the adult student learning journey.
  • Providing unbiased, research-based support that guides adults through the choices and process of working, learning, and living.
  • Supporting adult learners through attainment of their workforce credential, up to completion of a four-year degree and career advancement.
  • Facilitating a consortium of workforce development providers and higher education institutions that provide good options for adult learners
  • Working with employer partners to contribute employment and service options.
  • Amplifying the benefits of including adult workforce and degree completion as a regional strategy for economic and workforce development, strengthening communities, and social mobility.
  • Mobilizing regional resources around an adult workforce and degree completion agenda that is aligned with other regional higher education and workforce priorities.
  • Influencing policies and practices within higher education, employers, and private and public funding sources for adult learners.
